Answer the following questions:
What is palm oil?
Palm oil is an type of oil made from the fruits of the palm trees.
What is palm oil used in?
Some things are Chocolate because it gives it a shiny look and texture. Cookies because it gives the cookies a creamy texture and taste. Pizza dough because it makes it not stick together and gives it a nice texture.
How much demand is there for palm oil?
In America 40-50% of the packaged food has palm oil in it.
How is palm oil produced?
You grow the palms then pick the fruit. You find the oil in the middle of the fruit.
How much forest is cleared every year for oil palm plantations?
48-56 thousand square miles are cleared of forest each year
What does this mean for the species that live there?
It means that they are losing their homes in the trees and their habitat so they die out.
Find 3 food items on the list, that you enjoy that do not have palm oil in them. List them here:

- Muesli bars and snack bars
Design a lunchbox menu, using palm oil free products. You can create a document.

ReplyDeleteVery interesting your research on Palm oil. I understand it is bad for the environment and the animals. Is it also bad for you?? You know that we ONLY use extra vergin olive oil which is very healthy:-)) Mum (Sally)
