Kite making



On Friday 26th of June room 1 and 2 set to work making wonderful kites for Matariki from the recycled materials they had brought especially from home.  


We made these kites because of Matariki and because they symbol the connection between the sky and the earth for Maori and Matariki is the stars in the sky connecting to the earth.


The week before in the homework they had to research about kites and collect materials such as plastic bags (we can cut them up) for the base of our kite. In the middle block they got into groups of 2-4, some people went by themselves. I was in a group with Ella, Katy and Erin. Then they started to put all their ideas together on a piece of paper to create a plan. Then when everyone had finished their plan they started on their kites. When we had finished our kites we added feathers and other accessories which made it look more traditional.


There were prizes for different categories like the most traditional, best plan and peoples choice.

It was lots and lots of fun and we all enjoyed ourselves a lot.
